So I remember a post a while back on here (can’t remember who or when) asking how slow your car could go. I found out today.

Kinja'd!!!

If i was going up a hill it would be a little slower but the moral of the story is that 1.5 mph is the slowest my car will allow me to go on its own.

well, like the slow races I have with my daughter...they don’t count if you aren’t moving. Also, you loose, even if you’ve won.

sounds like my commute this morning.

i’m guessing I can do about 5mph without stalling

22 miles to work @ 14 mph avg. speed :]

i’m confident it will be worse one day. Still better than public automated transport pods of the future

My 10 mile commute takes over an hour quite regularly when I work days. On the other hand it takes 20 minutes at night. No wonder I take the damn train.

Is that with cruise control? I expect with precise modulation of clutch and brake (and throttle as speeds increase) I could do any of an infinite number of speeds between 0 and my top speed.

well I could also go from 0-1.5 with a torque converter stall. This is in gear, flat ground, no brake, full engagement.

The Cessna’s airspeed indicator only comes online at about 24 KT.

If you’re really good you can make it disappear while in the air.

My buddy has a cj7 with a teralow and you can just leave it in gear and run circles around it barely seems like it’s moving.

I don’t have a very low 1st gear, or low range gear, but my final gears are pretty low. 1.5 mph is something I would feel no problem walking along side of...except that even at idle there is enough power to mow over many things at that level of torque multiplication.

Huh. Can't really replicate that in the MJ cause the torque converter won't lock up below 45mph or so. Might see what the Lada will do if I just let out the clutch at idle in low-range... I'll report back tonight!

well the cruisers TC isn’t locked up, thats just the speed my truck rolls forward in lowest gear.

Actually, thinking about it I don’t know if I’ve got a speedometer that’ll measure that. The ping interval on my phone’s GPS is too long and/or the location precision isn’t enough to properly measure even a quick walk, and I don’t have anything to hook up to get a digital readout from either vehicle’s speed sensor.

those “your speed is” signs near school zones and the like only register 7 and up, found out on a bike.

So do it the old fashioned way. Measure a distance, clock the time from start to finish point, divide.

Science.

So after hopping into the Niva I’ve discovered that the speedometer won’t go any lower than 10 km/h, so using that us out. But it’ll idle happily along in low-range, 1st gear at ~1300 rpm, even while climbing a fairly impressive hill. Using the presumably accurate specs I pulled off several questionable online sources (at least they all agreed) that’s with a 1:3.667 first gear, 1:2.135 low-range, and a 1:3.9 rear end, paired with my 205/75-15's, that works out to something approximating 3.45mph. You, sir, have me beat with that treacherous fluid coupling.

I’ll have to report back on the MJ. I’ve got an entire XJ drivetrain (engine, trans, tcase, and both axles) sitting in the bed and don’t really feel like hauling that around just for fun.
